Curling Iron Overview - Basic Tools Feature

Curl Power - Curling Irons 101
Curling Iron Types: Marcel, Spring Iron, Clip-Free Iron, Tapered Rod, Spiral Spring Iron and a Three-Barrel Wave Iron
There are many ways to create curl and wave but curling irons and wands are the most popular and versatile. They come in a wide variety of barrel sizes and shapes, and iron types to give a wider array of hair bending options. Let's take a look at some of the options.

Marcel n’ Me
Marcel curling irons were originally designed for salon professionals and are best suited for styling someone else’s hair, unless you are super-coordinated. Instead of holding the iron closed with a constant grip like with spring curling irons, marcel irons offer the ultimate control with a lever design and a locking mechanism to hold the hair around the barrel. They offer exceptional styling control and speedy curl creation for those experienced with the tool. Higher temperatures, quicker recovery times and professional grade materials give salon quality results but usually come with pro-oriented pricing. If you chose to go this direction, be ready for an investment.

Spring Time
Spring curling irons are easy to use and are the most popular type of curling iron available. They are great starter tools that offer a spring arm or clamp to maintain a firm hold on hair. You simply use your thumb to open the clamp arm and release sections of hair as you work.

Spring irons come in a wide variety of barrel widths from super small at 3/8-inch or ½-inch, small at 3/4 –inch, medium at 1-inch, large at 1.25-inch, 1.5-inch or even 1.75-inch, or the extra large or “Bumper Irons” at 2-inches. If you are just starting out and looking for a good basic iron, a 1-inch or medium is the most versatile. If you have shorter hair, you may want to step down a notch as you want to be able to wrap the hair all the way around the barrel of the iron at least once.

Because spring irons are so very popular, it’s no surprise that they come in a wide array of sizes, barrel shapes (like round, oblong, triangular, etc.) and qualities, which naturally translates to pricing. If you are looking for a good basic iron, invest well in a high quality, current technology iron in a size that will work for creating a wide variety of styles. For specialized irons that you are less likely to use on a regular basis, you may wish to be more frugal.

Regardless, don’t get caught up with all of the gimmicks, but do look for an iron with adjustable heat settings, a ceramic barrel and heating element, a beefy cord, a comfortable grip, and a decent warranty from the manufacturer. A one-year warranty is standard and expected for a good iron.

Clip-free Curling Irons, Rods or Wands
It can take a little bit of practice to get the hang of clip-free curling irons, also known as rod and wands, but once you do the curling opportunities are endless. No clip or clamp means that you curl your hair by draping it around the barrel, wrapping the ends of your hair last, versus first. Most of these irons come with or require a heat glove to use effectively, but do be careful as it’s easy to get burned. These tools are great for creating volume at the base (root) and pieciness at the ends, best known as beachy waves or curls. The barrels of these tools come in a variety of sizes but the 1-inch is still the most popular and versatile. If you really want to mix it up, consider a tapered iron, which will provide a variety of curl sizes using one tool.

Specialty Irons - Notched or Ridged Curling Irons
Spiral or ribbon curling iron are relatively new on the scene irons have raised ridges on the barrel that guide hair around into precise spirals. It makes for quick styling for that specific type of curl. These irons are fun to work with, but may be a bit limiting to some users.

Multiple Barrel Curling Irons
Double-barrel curling irons allow you to create figure-eight loops or simple waves while triple barrel or wave irons press your hair into an oscillating pattern for beachy waves. These types of irons work with larger sections of hair at one time and make for fast styling and predictable results.

Where to Start
Not sure what to get? Start with a good basic like a 1-inch spring iron and play around with different sections of hair to see what sort of results you can achieve and then add to your collection as you see fit. If not, consider an iron with interchangeable barrels or play around with a tapered wand. Just remember: the size the iron is proportionate to the size of the curl while the size of the section of hair being curled is in proportion to how tight the curl is. For tighter curls, use smaller sections, for looser waves, use larger sections.

Now get out there and make some waves (or curls)!

Instead of getting healthy and beautiful hair, it becomes more and more damaged your hair.
So, what are the tips you need to know whether the hair treatment?

Know your hair type, normal, oily, or dry.

Normal Hair

If your hair is not easily ruffled, not easy greasy, and easy to set up, then your hair can be classified into normal hair types.
Treatments you can do is washing your hair twice a week with a shampoo and conditioner for normal hair types. Dry with a towel.
short hair treatment

If you want to use a blower, blow your hair, but remember the hair blower and you do not get stuck. Leave a gap of about 30 cm. This is important not only for normal hair types, but also to other hair types.

Greasy hair

If your hair tends to be oily, sticky, and easy to limp, then your hair can be classified into oily hair types. Oily hairs commonly caused by stress, the influence of hormonal activity, thyroid gland problems, and often eat foods that are too fatty like chocolate.
Treatments that can be done were to wash your hair more often, because the oily hair type should be washed more often. When you wash, use a gentle shampoo and hair do not rub too hard. Rubbing the hair will not make your hair becomes greasy again. However, this will only worsen the condition of your hair and cause damage to the hair follicle.
When shampooing, you should not use conditioner, and it would be better if you use a special shampoo for oily hair types. Also avoid hair care products that contain silicone, petroleum or lanolin, as well as two in one shampoo (shampoo + conditioner). You can also add lemon to the final rinse to make the hair looks shiny.

Dry Hair

If you have dry hair and part the hair tends to be drier and easy to tangle or fall out, it’s categorized to dry hair types.
Treatments you can do is wash your hair about once a week with a special shampoo for dry hair types. You can use conditioner on the ends of the hair only, not to the base of the hair.

If your skin feels very dry hair, use an anti-dandruff shampoo. Give a gentle massage of the head with a little oil before flushing.

Avoid the mistakes that often occur in hair treatment

Some of the mistakes that often happen are:

Part the hair is weaker than the roots. This tends to make the hair more brittle and tangled. Cutting the ends of the hair every 6 weeks will help maintain and preserve the condition of your hair style.

Washing your hair every day.

Too often you wash your hair every day will make your hair dry and brittle. If your hair is too oily, do not wash every day (although for this hair type is to be somewhat frequent washing). Wash your hair every other day, and use a mild shampoo with a balanced PH. Do not rub your scalp while washing your hair. This will further stimulate the oil glands produce more sebum.

Too hard rubbing your hair with a towel when you want to dry it.

This action will only make your hair cuticle rough, so the hair becomes frizzy.

Still leaves the rest of shampoo and conditioner in your hair.

Shampoos and conditioners are not rinsed with clean would exacerbate damage your hair. Strands of hair will be dull, brittle and unmanageable. So, make sure to rinse your hair thoroughly after shampooing.

Drying your hair with a blower to dry completely.

Too many to provide heat to your hair will make your hair become more easily damaged and broken. If you want to dry your hair with a dry blower only to 80% only, the rest let it dry itself naturally. Leave a gap of about 30 cm between your hair blower.

Do not use a shampoo that is recommended for each hair type.

Many people are mistaken in determining hair type they belong to the type of hair which, so either buy hair care products. Use a shampoo and conditioner that is recommended for each type of hair.

Do not use shampoo once a week cleaning.

Wherever you are and whatever your activities, every day pollutants stuck in your hair, and left a layer of dirt on your scalp. Use cleansing shampoo once a week to clean up any debris that stick

Thinking that all models of the latest haircut certainly suitable for you.

How to use oil products:
Most oils are best applied to clean, damp hair, working a small amount in from the mid shafts to the ends – the areas that typically need the most moisturizing and protection. If your scalp is dry, a very small amount can be massaged through, just be aware that it may hamper any root lift efforts you may try to achieve during style. After working the oil in, comb through to help distribute the product and then either air-dry or blow-dry as you normally would. You’ll notice a quicker dry time and softer strands. If you are going for a sleek look, add a few drops to your hands and smooth your palms over dry, flat ironed hair to take down any flyaways. If you have any of the product left, most oils make for a great hand and skin moisturizer too.

Fabulous Skin Care Finds

The Whole Truth Kit by Ole Henriksen

As an editor, I am privy to a variety of beauty products and have subjected my hair, skin and face to plenty of items all claiming to be the best on the market. Many do perform quite well while some are less effective for a variety of reasons, but once in awhile I come across a jewel in the mix. This distinction I hold exclusively for products that I feel outperform their price.

Recommended by an associate based on my skin type and aging eye area issues, I was thrilled to experience the benefits truly delivered by the Whole Truth Kit by Ole Henriksen. This kit contains Collagen Booster, Truth Crème and Total Truth Eye Crème SPF 15. Powered by Vitamin C, these three products by skin expert Ole Henriksen work in synergy to brighten and even skin tone, firm by supporting healthy collagen, provide all day hydration to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles and protect from damaging UV rays with broad spectrum sunscreen.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster comes in a.5 fl oz | 15 ml size in this kit. Like a daily vitamin for the face, this high-powered vitamin C complex helps smooth out lines and wrinkles and prevents further damage. Loaded with antioxidants to fight off environmental aggressors and moisture-binding ingredients to keep skin nourished and protected, this aromatic serum is absorbed instantly and penetrates to the deeper layers of the skin to provide long-term results.

Specifically around the thin skin of my eye area, I dabbed on Ole Henriksen Total Truth Eye Crème SPF 15 from the 0.1oz jar. This broad spectrum UV protection eye crème with Omega 3 extracts nourishes, hydrates and diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while micro algae and peptides strengthen and firm the eye area. An added bonus, The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends Ole Henriksen Total Truth Eye Crème SPF 15 as an effective UV sunscreen.
