Long Hair & Makeup Artistry
Based in Southern California, Jennifer Scott Abernethy is a long hair specialist who knows what beauty is all about.
“At some point in their lives,” states Jennifer, “women want long, luxurious hair that caresses their shoulders and spans down their back. It’s just a girly thing.”
Jennifer knows that having these longer lengths, whether natural or added, comes with a fair amount of responsibility. Long hair typically requires more TLC than shorter lengths and takes more time, effort and even product and tools to make it look polished and put together.
Jennifer adds, “If women want these longer lengths, they really should put the time into it to be sure they are providing the proper care and feeding. Your hairdresser really is your best ally when it comes to hair care. Also, women should take advantage of all of the styling options available for their tresses. Healthy, well-kept lengths can be super versatile and it seems a shame not to take advantage of as many options as possible…especially with all of the fun, bodified styles we’re seeing today!”

For Sara, Jennifer went for a very voluptuous, Brigitte Bardot sort of appeal – A very in-demand look right now. She added length and volume with hair extensions and then applied a deep golden bronzy-brown shade with hand painted highlights for a lived-in placement.
To create a very full and sultry down-style, Moroccan Oil was worked through damp hair before rough-drying just to remove the moisture. Large pin curls were created all over, which were pinned up to cool. Sexy waves emerged after the pins were removed and sections were fingered through. Aquage Finishing Spray and Beyond Shine Spray were layered on to provide the perfect finish.
For a sexy pony, Jennifer backcombed (teased) on top for height and then gathered the length into a high ponytail, securing it with a coated elastic band. A section of hair was wrapped around the band to conceal it and then the length was finger styled into place.
Jennifer took Katie’s hair to a darker blonde shade and then introduced subtle golden highlighting for dimension. She power dried the longer layers and then applied Aquage Beyond Body thermal styler to sections before pin curling and clipping each section up to cool. Jennifer worked back through the sections once unpinned and crafted an elegant up-style by rolling sections and pinning them up.
For an edgy pin-up, the hair was brushed out, backcombed at the base (root) and then, starting at the bottom, sections were twisted and pinned into the center of the head. Once all sections were pinned up, Jennifer backcombed a bit more and then pieced out the ends using thermal spray. Credits:
