Trend Alert - Make'n Waves with Beachy Hair

Beachy Summer Waves

Looking for a beachy, windswept, daytime look with an easy-care vibe? Long hair expert Nicole Martin of Nicole Martin Hair in sunny Aliso Viejo, California says that anything is do-able with the right product, tools and techniques.

According to Nicole, a good texturizing product is a “must have” to achieve these looks along with a small arsenal of styling irons and smoothing products to keep things in check. She personally uses the Kevin Murphy line of professional hair care and styling products to achieve her in-demand hair creations and suggests using top quality ceramic irons for the best results.

Texture on High
For Vanessa (first hairstyle on the left), Nicole took one-inch sections of dry hair, misted each section with Kevin Murphy Session Spray and wrapped it tightly onto a tapered curling rod. She continued with all sections, wrapping in the same direction until all hair was done. A dab of Motion Lotion was applied to her hands before roughing up the waves with her fingers to remove frizz. Easy Rider was used to separate the curls and add shine to the hair overall.

For Rhena (middle), Nicole applied a walnut-size amount of Kevin Murphy Anti Gravity volumizing texturizer liquid and Hair Resort strong hold texurizer and worked them through her damp hair before blow-drying with a paddle brush. Three-inch wide panels of dry hair were pressed with a three-barrel iron all the way down each section leaving a rippled texture all the way through her strands. Once all hair was wave-ironed, Nicole backcombed through the top for a good foundation and added clip-in extensions for length and volume. Once the extensions where integrated in, Nicole created tight three-strand braids on small, random sections.

For Sarah (hairstyle on the right), Nicole took large triangular sections of dry hair and wrapped each in a zigzag pattern around her fingers while held in a V-shape. Leaving the ends out, she set the sections with a scrunchie, placed a hairnet over the surface to hold and then hit the hair with a blow dryer for five minutes on medium heat.

Nicole let the hair cool for about 15 minutes and then undid the scrunchies. She applied a quarter-size amount of Kevin Murphy Motion Lotion anti-frizz cream onto her hands and worked it through Sarah’s hair for soft definition. Last, she produced a twisted two-strand braid, adding beads into the mix to match her outfit. The end result is a soft, beachy wave with a subtle bohemian vibe.
