Trends for Makeup - Winter 2014

Must-Have Makeup for 2014

For winter 2014, So-Cal based makeup artists Jaime Queenin and Jennifer Abernethy of Makeup On Location envision drama in the eyes with vintage-inspired looks and smudged powder liners prevailing. It’s a smokier look for eye makeup but with the outlining effect as the foundation. More polished brows go hand in hand with the retro look and universal brow pencils step up for more hair colors, especially in the blonde to brown ranges.

“Have some fun this season with lashes, glitter, and be-jeweled lids, proudly wearing makeup like an accessory.”
For lips, this duo says to look for soft neutral, bare-looking or pink-hued shades for casual fares but a pop of color for dressing up daytime looks, nights out or special occasions. Think perky pink and retro red. A few personal faves include: MAC’s Lovelorn (pink), Hot Gossip (pink), Show Orchid (pink), Lady Danger (red), Ruby Woo (red) with MAC Red, Russian Red + Viva Glam 1 and Bobbie Brown -Tulle (A softer Neutral Pink).

Get This Look - Smooth the entire eyelid with a cream colored shimmer and then add a charcoal lash line, smudging it into a bronzy brown. A great technique to keep the drama by taking a lined eye into a slightly smoky look. For an evening look, add drama with a bolder lip.

Get This Look - Look 1: This look is going for definition and slightly darker drama but with a lighter lid. Eyes are lined with a softer powder while peachy tones kiss the lips and cheeks. Look 2: A fresh-picked finish soft pink on the lips and cheeks leave a sense of innocence.
