Hair Trends - Fresh Perspectives by ENJOY Professional Hair Care

ENJOY Professional Hair Care proudly unveils their latest collection of finely crafted hairstyle trends aptly named Fresh Perspectives. These distinctive makeovers offer the finest solutions for every hair type and length, and showcase oh-so-current color techniques, modern cuts and evolved styles. Let’s sneak a peek at the new arrivals…

Gretchen (Top)

Gretchen had damaged, overly colored hair, which left a  faded out brown hue. Her hair offers a medium texture and density with a fair amount of curl and frizz to go with it.

Color Result: Vibrant fiery red

Very bold fringe tops this sleekly polished, face-framing hairstyle.

Apply a nickel-size amount of ENJOY Straightener on damp hair and comb through for even distribution. Blow hair dry in sections using a medium round brush to help smooth out the natural texture. Add a dime-size amount of ENJOY Creamy Pomade to remove fly-aways on the surface and to create texture framing the face.

Jacqueline (Middle)

Ready for a new look, Jacqueline has naturally thick, wavy, medium density and thickness hair with a starting level 5 color.

Color Result: Chocolate brown with softly blended golden and copper highlights mainly through the top.
This very sleek, polished bob is a classic look with a very refined finish.

Apply a nickel-size amount of ENJOY Straightener on damp hair from the mid-shaft through the ends. Layer on a nickel-size amount of ENJOY Hair and Skin Treatment Oil and then blow-dry with a larger round brush, rolling the brush several times to create a beveled finish.

Jannica (Bottom)

Jannica had very dense, straight, thick, coarse hair with level 5 regrowth and level 7 mid-shafts through the ends.

Color Result: Block patterned multi-dimensional burgundy or eggplant with most of the accent in the fringe and top.

With controlled texture, this fun short style can be worn many different ways. Seen here with piece-y bits framing the face, this version offers flipped up length on top.

Starting on damp hair, apply ENJOY Spray Gel all over. Blow-dry the lower portion smooth and forward with a paddle brush and then switch to a small round brush to dry the top. Roll sections away from the face for lift on top. Add a nickel-size amount of ENJOY Dry Wax mixed with about three pumps of ENJOY Shine Spray and work through from the mid-shafts through the ends for a pliable hold.

Rose Gold Obsession - Get the Look

Allison Williams of HBO's
Girls Lust-Worthy Look
Makeup Breakdown by Celebrity Makeup Artist Gita Bass

Allison Williams
For Allison Williams of HBO's Girls, Celebrity Makeup Artist Gita Bass tapped a new fave hue, rose gold. It's been Gita's favorite shade lately as she feels that it works with every skin tone.

Since Allison's dress was nude with gold accents, Gita wanted to warm up the face and keep the look soft and sexy.

For a flawless complexion Gita prepped Allison's skin with Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer and applied a few drops of Armani Maestro foundation and Cle De Peau concealer where needed. She applied Chanel Le Blush Creme De Chanel cream blush to the apples of the cheeks and set it with Nars powder blush in Deep Throat.

For the eyes Gita lined upper, lower and inner lash lines with a chocolate eye crayon like Osmosis Colour Eye Pencil in Brown and smudged it with a soft brush. She then applied Chanel Illusion D'ombre in Abstraction, a gorgeous warm rose color, to the lid up to the crease and on the lower lash line.

To create the rose gold, Gita layered the bronze shadow from the Lorac Baked Eyeshadow Trio in Superstar over the cream and used the light gold for the inner corners and brow bone. A few coats of YSL Mascara Singulier in deep black finished off the look.

For a soft peachy nude that would add warmth to the face, Tom ford Blush Nude lipstick was mixed with with a touch of True Coral.

The end result? Simply stunning!

Arganio Argan Soft Skin Lotion - Review

Skin-Loving Benefits of Argan

I have a thing for natural extracts, as you may be able to tell from my other reviews, and most of the time I find myself gravitating toward unique products from smaller manufacturers. Maybe it’s because I get the whole small business owner thing or that I associate specialty lines with addressing specific market needs that larger lines tend to look past. Regardless, I wanted to share a fabulous little find.

I had a chance to review a wonderful potion by Canada’s very own Arganio called Argan Soft Skin Lotion. Just a small amount of this ultra lightweight lotion on my hands, arms and legs, especially after shaving, made for soft and nourished skin. It’s not greasy, like some heavy oils can be, and  absorbed very quickly without the use of alcohol or any drying agents. The scent is a delicate lavender (yum).

A quick peek at the label revealed several favorite ingredients:

Persia gratissima or Avocado oil is extracted from the fruit itself, which is very rich in protein, lecithin and vitamins A, B1, B2, B5, D & E. It is also a natural UV-A and UV-B filter, which is a plus for any skin lotion. Prunus Amygdalus dulcis or Almond oil is easily absorbed by the body and is a great moisturizer while Simmondsia Chinensis or Jojoba seed extract is especially beneficial in treating irritated skin.

Argania spinosa or Argan oil, one of the main ingredients, offers moisturizing and anti-aging properties and is naturally rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids and contains high levels of Vitamin E. Argan oil reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, increases elasticity, protects against stretch marks and soothes itchy and irritated skin. This multipurpose moisturizer effectively nourishes skin, repairs hair and strengthens nails, naturally.

So, in a nutshell, or technically extracted from one - this is another great find. If you have dry or irritated skin, prefer a lightweight product and have a love of natural ingredients like I do, give this little gem a try!

Spiced Up Berries Antioxidant Face Masque by Balanced Guru

Certified Organic Powder Face Mask

Balanced Guru's Spiced Up Berries Antioxidant Facial Masque is customizable skin care, activated by mixing with water, honey, greek yogurt or toner for the consistency and feel of the user's choice. The masque creates healthier, younger looking skin cells through Acai and Acerola Berries, Clove, Cinnamon, Oatmeal & Vitamin C for youthful, blemish-free and even toned skin. The Acerola Cherry packs more milligrams of Vitamin C than an orange, overflowing with collagen-building and acne fighting properties.
Powder Face Masque
Fact: While young skin is full of Vitamin C, skin naturally loses this nutrient over time resulting in pre-mature signs of aging. Blemishes are also caused by a lack of Vitamin C in your skin.

All of Balanced Guru products are made with certified organic food-graded ingredients meaning all of their ingredients are safe enough to eat and extremely rich in nutrients, anti-oxidants and vitamins that will make you see and feel the physical benefits of using them on your skin. Colorful berries are a great way to feed skin with antioxidants, while clove and cinnamon are also loaded with antioxidants to fight free radicals like UV rays, pollution, and other lifestyle factors that prematurely age skin. Vitamin C will give this masque an extra boost to also help brighten your complexion.

Directions: A single application will consist of about 1/6 oz of powder, adding your activator of choice (water, honey, greek yogurt or toner) based on the consistency you wish to achieve. The 4 oz jar has about 24 applications (enough for a 6-month supply used once weekly). Each jar comes with a spoon to scoop out the product and a spatula to help mix and apply. A brush is the preferred way to smooth over skin.

Retail size: 1oz, $12.50 or 4oz, $45 via www.balancedguru.com.

Color Trends for Hair - Winter 2014

Rhonda                              Tara                                     Rhea
Very Vivid - Creative Color Canvas

More than just a paint-by-numbers concept, color for hair has emerged into a vastly dynamic medium. It can add texture, shape and even dimension to any cut and personalize a style to suit any personality from oh-so-very-conservative to brilliantly bold and very vivacious. Let's take a look at some edgy and robust color to liven up the winter season!

The Looks:

For Rhonda, stylist James Dinkel of The David Salon in Costa Mesa, California cut a long, modified shag with a heavy fringe. For her color, he started with her natural ash re-growth and warm gold previous color on the length and produced a fiery red with wild sparks of brighter red and orange burning through.

To style, Goldwell Flat Marvel cream silicone was worked through before blow-drying and smoothing with a large round brush. James added Sleek Perfection and flat ironed, finishing with Magic Finish Gloss.

Nicole Ankenman, also of The David Salon in Costa Mesa, California started with a long A-line bob for Tara and created a blending of radiant pinks and light copper through a rich violet brown base.

Tara’s hair was styled using Goldwell Lagoom Jam and Deep Reflects leave-in treatment on damp strands. Nicole flat wrapped while drying with a half paddle brush. Hot Form was misted on 2-inch sections, which were wrapped around a 1-inch iron, alternating curl direction. Nicole fingered through the hair and finished using Unlimitor wax spray for texture.

Starting with Rhea’s natural color and grown out shoulder-length strands, colorist Victoria Pelaez of Salon Kavi in San Mateo, California created a robust transition of sunny color through a rich dark brown base.

Karla Pelaez-Barrick stepped in and produced a short asymmetrical cut, which featured graduation in the back and extreme length on one side. Using a razor, lots of weight was removed from Rhea’s thick, coarse hair so it would lay better. Using a clipper-over-comb technique, Karla crafted a super short nape of the neck and side, and then carved into the shorter side with the clippers creating a unique design.

Kerastase Nectar Thermique and Elixir Ultime were layered on before Karla blow-dried while flat wrapping the hair with a vent brush. Once dry, she flat ironed a few pieces for control, finishing off this sleek but edgy look.

Trends for Makeup - Winter 2014

Must-Have Makeup for 2014

For winter 2014, So-Cal based makeup artists Jaime Queenin and Jennifer Abernethy of Makeup On Location envision drama in the eyes with vintage-inspired looks and smudged powder liners prevailing. It’s a smokier look for eye makeup but with the outlining effect as the foundation. More polished brows go hand in hand with the retro look and universal brow pencils step up for more hair colors, especially in the blonde to brown ranges.

“Have some fun this season with lashes, glitter, and be-jeweled lids, proudly wearing makeup like an accessory.”
For lips, this duo says to look for soft neutral, bare-looking or pink-hued shades for casual fares but a pop of color for dressing up daytime looks, nights out or special occasions. Think perky pink and retro red. A few personal faves include: MAC’s Lovelorn (pink), Hot Gossip (pink), Show Orchid (pink), Lady Danger (red), Ruby Woo (red) with MAC Red, Russian Red + Viva Glam 1 and Bobbie Brown -Tulle (A softer Neutral Pink).

Katherine Before, Look 1, Look 2 - makeup by Jennifer Abernethy
Get This Look - Smooth the entire eyelid with a cream colored shimmer and then add a charcoal lash line, smudging it into a bronzy brown. A great technique to keep the drama by taking a lined eye into a slightly smoky look. For an evening look, add drama with a bolder lip.

Alicia Before, Look 1, Look 2- Makeup by Jaime Queenin
Get This Look - Look 1: This look is going for definition and slightly darker drama but with a lighter lid. Eyes are lined with a softer powder while peachy tones kiss the lips and cheeks. Look 2: A fresh-picked finish soft pink on the lips and cheeks leave a sense of innocence.

Original Sprout Natural Hair & Skin Care Review

Natural, Deep & Scrumptious by Original Sprout

I have mentioned before that I love coming across unique finds, and when it comes to hair and skin care, new products not commonly found in the mainstream, it’s a double delight.

Recently I was sent 4 oz try-me sizes of three Original Sprout products including the Natural Shampoo, Deep Conditioner and Scrumptious Baby Cream. These, and all of their products are natural organic and 100% vegan formulations that are family friendly, with safe and soothing ingredients. They use fragrances and essential oils that are approved by California's Safe Cosmetics Program and the European Cosmetics Directive, and are free of ingredients linked to estrogen and hormone disruption, autism and cancer concerns.

According to Original Sprout literature, cancer and early puberty can be linked to hormone disruption, which takes place with either natural or synthetic hormone disrupters such as soy, yam, tea tree, lavender, parabens, titanium dioxide, formaldehyde or nano-particles. In addition to avoiding these ingredients, Original Sprout products are also free of insect attracting honey or soda fragrances.

Original Sprout Natural Shampoo
With a gentle pH of 6.0-7.0, this sulfate-free cleanser is color safe and suited for all ages. It has added sun protection while organic emollients detangle and make rinsing effortless. Scalp, hair and skin are hydrated, nourished and left healthy, shiny, and easy to comb.

Original Sprout Deep Conditioner
Hard water, sun, wind, and pollution dehydrate hair making it prone to tangles, frizzies and flyaways. Rich in protein and moisture, this specialized family formula cares for every hair type, transforming frizz into ringlets and flyaways into smooth, silky locks.

Original Sprout Scrumptious Baby Cream
This cream offers a soothing protective barrier that keeps skin soft and smooth. It’s non-greasy and extra hydrating for every skin type. It nurtures delicate skin and is ideal for babies, children and adults.

These three products all contain a host of natural ingredients starting natural zinc and rosemary, a natural bug repellent, that helps calm and soothe sensitive skin. In addition to anti-inflammatory benefits, Calendula soothes skin, and heals cuts and abrasions. Cucumber contains skin-lavishing minerals like magnesium, potassium and silicon while coconut oil is a great natural moisturizer. Known to moisturize and regenerate skin and hair, Cranberry is high in Vitamin A and C and promotes the growth of healthy hair.

My Take
I was given the opportunity to try the three products above. I love coming across new, smaller lines developed by people who see a need that the big manufacturers may not. Clearly Original Sprout has researched potential harmful ingredients and came up with this line of organic products that are gentle on hair and skin, making them ideal for babies and kids.

Nice little finds, the shampoo was gentle and effective, cleansing my dehydrated, course hair, while the conditioner added moisture and detangling. Both left a very delicate scent and a silky finish. My favorite however was the Scrumptious Cream. It left a clean, almost powdery scent, moisturizing without a greasy finish. It absorbed well and left my hands, arms and normally rough elbows, soft and supple. It's safe enough for babies but effective enough for my dry dermis!

Original Sprout is a family-run company based in San Luis Obispo, California. Founded by mother and master stylist, Inga Tritt, the company provides family friendly, natural hair and skin care products for babies and adults. The products are sold worldwide and include ultra-moisturizing shampoos, conditioners, styling products, lotions, and an amazing SPF.

One lucky US-based winner will receive their own full size products including a 12oz Natural Shampoo worth $19.50, a 12oz Deep Conditioner worth $21.00 and an 8oz Scrumptious Baby Cream worth $19.99. The total retail value of this giveaway is $60.49. Enter to win here: a Rafflecopter giveaway
